Visions for Pleasantville

The goal, with collaborative efforts of PACE University, Pleasantville Recreation Department and members of the Chamber, is to encourage students of Pleasantville High School to become active members of the community.   Students, with support from the  Pleasantville community, organize and promote events that improve and enrich the whole community.

Students in the News!

Laurie Zane, who the Student Visions Committee named as their president this year, was one of the seven awardees from throughout Westchester at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Youth Awards Luncheon in Tarrytown, held January 21, 2008. Her award--Building Bridges--describes work, including the Student Visions project.

Annual Open Mic Night

Every fall Visions organizes a coffee night in Pleasantivlle. This coffee house encourages local bands and artists to come out and play their music. At this Open Mic Night, refreshments donated by various local community organizations are served to the students and to the artists and audience. Open Mic Night is a night for artists to showcase their work in a relaxed environment as well as enjoy the music of others.

Annual Ski Trip

Over the past few years, Visions has been successful in planning a winter ski trip. At first, it was a challenge to get people interested, but over the years, the number of sign-ups steadily increased. The ski trip is a day-long event, usually in late January or early February. A bus leaves early from the high school and returns in the late afternoon, giving skiers and snow-boarders ample time to enjoy the slopes.

National Child Identification Program

Visions is beginning to promote child safety. At upcoming family events fingerprinting I.D. Kits will be distributed. We hope that by advocating this program, children will be safer.
